Daily Vacation Bible School(DVBS) is an event I’ve desired to attend but didn’t  manage mostly due to work.Last year I would’ve attended but I didn’t prepare well.This year I had purposed to take my nephew who is turning two years old in September.I was planning to babysit him throughout the week,I just wanted him to see the other children,listen to the music and just be there!

Two weeks to DVBS,I came to know that I would be part of the workers who would be teaching and helping in my Church.DVBS was going to take place from 13^th to 17^th August,at the same time it was our last week with the Good Morning Girls after a 10week Bible Study in the book of Psalms 1-50.

I was overwhelmed by the activities during the days,I wasn’t active online.I thought I would have to sit with my nephew(my baby) in my class but I was corrected.He was going to be in the babies class while I was assigned to teach 5year old boys.Actually I chose this class because it was next to my baby’s class,I wanted to be near him,just in case of anything.The teacher’s in my baby’s class were so sweet,may the Lord remember and bless them. They did not mind changing diapers,I thought I would take a break to do that,but instead they told me to give them the diapers everyday.I would hand over my baby at 8.00am and take him back at 12.30 pm.

I ended up teaching on Monday and Tuesday in my class.The rest of the days I helped around with calming the children,presenting drinks and snacks,sometimes alternating with the other teachers and so many other little but important duties.Thank God,we had enough workers,although the children were still more than average per class.

 

Workers were supposed to arrive early to prepare.Monday morning,I rose up early,prepared the baby and took off with a neighbor’s 4year old girl.We went walking and we arrived when I was panting because the baby was so heavy!The morning was full of activities and lunchtime reached so fast!We went  back home walking slowly.I got relief the rest of the days as I decided to take a bus which was picking children in our neighborhood.

DVBS was fun.I did almost everything the children were doing.We sang,danced,jumped,played,memorized  Isaiah 61.I used to wonder how children memorized whole chapters,this time I followed keenly and through a song I got Isaiah 61 tucked in my heart.I loved the puppetry session.I looked forward to it,all the days.Like most children I was sad when it wasn’t presented the last day-because it was a goodbye day and there were many other presentations.

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.He has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted,to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners,

2.to proclaim the year of the Lord’s  favour and the day of vengeance of our God,to comfort all who mourn,

3.and provide for those who grieve in Zion –to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes,the oil of gladness instead of mourning,and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.They will be called oaks of righteousness,a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.

4.They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated;they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations.

5.Aliens will shepherd your flocks;foreigners will work your fields and vineyards.

6.And you will be called priests of the Lord,you will be named ministers of our God.You will feed on the wealth of nations,and in their riches you will boast.

7.Instead of their shame my people will receive a double portion,and instead of disgrace they will rejoice in their inheritance;and so they will inherit a double portion in their land,and everlasting joy will be theirs.

8.’’For I the Lord love justice;I hate robbery and iniquity.In my faithfulness I will reward them and make an everlasting covenant with them.

9.Their descendants will be known among the nations and their offspring among the peoples.All who see them will acknowledge that they are a people the Lord has blessed.’’

10.I delight greatly in the Lord;my soul  rejoices in my God.For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness,as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest,and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

11.For as the soil makes the young plant come up and a garden causes seeds to grow,so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations.

We had an average of 3,200 children per day and we got over 3,500 children on Friday,the last day.I thank God that it was a success! I thank God for the security.All children came and returned home safely.

The report I got about my baby from his teachers was so encouraging.They said he was among the humble-quiet children. I was like,wow!Thank you Lord .It was his first time in a baby’s class and he behaved so well.Although at home he’s very loud,playful and active.He didn’t cry at all.In fact there’s a day he didn’t want to leave his teacher.He clang to her,and when I took him,he started crying! At home we noticed he was imitating the actions and songs he had seen in Church. From this experience I decided it was time for him to join Sunday School.
