Friday morning it was fun to have family around. My sister reminded me that I had said I would plait my hair, and she asked,”why don’t you do it now?”I reluctantly agreed and decided that day I was going to take a break from writing, online staff and the like.
I get inspired when I see do it yourself (DIY) projects. This is where I got the motivation to plait my own hair.
I had washed my hair on Monday of the same week so I didn’t need to wash it again.Although I always like washing my hair when I am going to the salon for a new hairstyle.
On this Good Friday at around 1pm I started off by dividing my hair into three sections, then I plaited the behind section.
While doing this section I got to watch some Easter movies. It was quite a sad day.Very sombre mood.I did not fail to notice that Jesus suffered loneliness right from the time he went to pray on the mount of olives. He told the disciples to pray, instead they fell asleep out of grief. So he prayed alone.
40 And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.
41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,
42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
43 And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.
44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
45 And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow,
46 And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.
Did you notice that Jesus wished that he wouldn’t go through this but he consulted first with God,it depended with God’s will.
Sometimes we go through tough times,we wish to get out but what matters is,are we in the will of God?
Down the way of the cross(”via dolorosa”) the beating, ridicule, shame, loneliness, pain, suffering, mockery, hunger, scorching heat from the sun that our Lord Jesus went through for us is unbearable,it is only him who could do such for us.This Easter was a grim reminder of what our Lord Jesus went through some two thousand years ago so that we may be redeemed.
This song says it all;
Jesus paid the price.
He is the pure, spotless ,healthy lamb that was sacrificed to pay our sins.
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
And when it was all over,he said “it is finished”.
Our sins were fully paid for, there is now no more condemnation for us whom our faith is in Christ Jesus, now we are the righteousness of God.Now there is no barrier between God and us.Sin was removed. We have been reconciled back to God.The best part is that now we can access the father directly on our own.We do not need a high priest,a pastor or another person to talk to God.We can kneel down like Jesus did and pour our hearts to him.
The revelation of what Jesus did for us is overwhelming, and every pain he went through was worth it.
By the time I finished plaiting the left side ,it was already 5.34pm
I finished with the right side and then got all the loose ends into one neat rope.My sister reminded me to plait my hair next time with some bit of added hair,I had done it plain.
By this time it was already 8:48pm.While meditating about the death of Jesus,I solemnly took a break and went to sleep.
Saturday morning, the desire to finish what I had started was still there.I had hair that I was planning to use but it didn’t impress my sister. She was like,”why don’t you use my hair which you have been keeping?
True……..it looked better than mine!
I had kept the hair that she had used on my graduation two years ago.I had never won it though it was as good as new. Truth is I don’t like putting on weave so much,I prefer plaiting. Most of the time you will find me plaiting or with open hair.
With my sister,December 2015
I started weaving from behind.
I was not even halfway when my sister started admiring me.”You look so beautiful she said, you look lovely.”She said over and over again until I started smiling.Inside my heart I was like,”this thing has worked”I was sure I was going to look gorgeous when I was done with this.
It was already 3.50pm
My mom had been resting all this while when she came back, she found me at this stage and she was like,”so we have salonists here!”She stared at me and was like “you got talent! You can start a salon business!”
My sister looked at me and she couldn’t help herself, immediately she had an idea. She wanted me to start plaiting her hair as soon as I was done.”But your hair still looks okay,”I told her.”You can still pull another week with it,after all,its just three weeks since you made it”.”No,”she refused adamantly,”I was planning to undo it over Easter though I wasn’t sure how I was gonna make it,”she said.
By the time I was done,it was already 6.30pm.I was going to prepare supper fast,my sister would clean the dishes then I would work on her hair.By the way, there was not going to be any shortcuts with her,she wanted what we call ”fixing” braids.
My finished hair.
My sister said that I put much hair at the back, that’s why I got an overflow of hair. While her salonist put much hair on the front part of her hair, that’s why her head looked bulky.
After supper,I told my sister, let’s work on your hair tomorrow, but she was like,” no no noooo,we’ve got to do this now!”I felt awful because I hadn’t given much time to God this Easter,I had already skipped the overnight vigil which was on Good Friday, and now it was evident that I wouldn’t attend the Sunday service.
I worked on her hair,by the time we finished it was 5.30am Sunday morning.
There is something I love about Easter Sunday mornings. The good news that our Lord is no longer dead, but is risen and is alive.
I like the way the story is narrated in the book of John.
The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.
2 Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.
3 Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre.
4 So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre.
5 And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.
6 Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie,
7 And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.
8 Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.
9 For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.
10 Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.
11 But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,
12 And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.
13 And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.
14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.
15 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.
16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.
17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.
The resurrection of Jesus Christ means so much to us christians.
First of all,it means that Jesus defeated death, since he rose again,we believers have a hope of rising up again and having life after death.
It also means that we have been justified before God,that is we have been made right with God.
25 Who was delivered for our offenses, and was raised again for our justification.
It also proves that Jesus is the son of God.
4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:
What does the resurrection of Jesus mean to you?
I went to bed at 6am looking forward to an Easter festival that would happen at my local Church in the afternoon.
My sister’s finished hair.
