The joy of reconciling with our old friend.

2 Corinthians 5:18-21

18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.

20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. 21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Friendship is sweet when people are in good terms, that is,when people are talking to each other. However, should something happen and the friends disagree or quarrel ,this can result to the friends being in bad terms. It might be so bad to the extent that the friends won’t talk to each other, may not sit together, eating together can be a problem, they may leave each other and go separate ways.

This is what happens to us Christians when we turn our backs on God!This is  what happens when we fail to worship and glorify God in our lives. This is why the Lord get’s so angry at us  which makes us to get into trouble.First of all, there is no fellowship between us and Him because of the sin that is controlling our lives. We end up living wicked lives and our souls are headed to eternal torture in hell fire.

But there is hope!

Two weeks ago I wasn’t in good terms with my sister. We had quarreled so bad to the extent of fighting. We stopped talking to each other and I moved out of the bedroom we shared. This went on for a few days but it felt so bad.I wish we could reconcile.None of us was ready to be humble, stoop low and start the conversations until we got a visitor one day in the afternoon. We showed the visitor the best side of us.Both of us talked to the visitor who also addressed us without knowing what was happening.By the time the visitor was leaving,we were already talking to each other.Since then we have been in good terms. We are not only talking to each other but we are also enjoying goodies that come along with a good friendly relationship.

There is hope  for the Christian whose fellowship with God has stopped or deteriorated  because of sin.God sent us a visitor whom He used to reconcile us back to Him.We only need to believe in the visitor He sent. This visitor was His only son,Jesus Christ who died for us on the cross! Through Him our terrible sins are washed away by His blood that He shed on the cross.Through Him our sins have been forgiven and we are made righteous.Through Him we have been redeemed, the penalty that was upon us has been reduced to zero.Through Him we have been justified!Through Him we will enjoy eternal life.

Romans 5:8-11

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. 10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. 11 And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.

When we get reconciled to God,its not only Him who enjoys and benefits,we also benefit in a great way.Check out 10 Spiritual Blessings That We Have In Christ to know what we gain by being in a good relationship with God.

  1. I love my friends and I find we must keep open hearts and forgiveness must be flowing freely. Reconciliation among friends is a beautiful thing. Thank you for sharing at #glimpse this week.

  2. My husband and I had a disagreement and main thing that helped us work through it was the commitment to keep talking. I think this principle can be applied to our relationship with Jesus beyond salvation. Often we do feel angry or upset with God… if we commit ourselves to keep talking (prayer) then He will help us work through it and restore our fellowship! thanks for your post.

  4. Hi Stella,

I love this post! Especially because I have been in a season where I’m learning about true friendship. Lately God has been teaching me about the power of reconciliation, love and forgiveness. I have been blogging about it on my site as well. It’s tough sometimes but I am grateful for Jesus who leads us. Thank you for being a vessel.
