Its almost five months since I wrote something on this blog,but my absence doesn’t mean that I’ve not been reading the Bible.I have been following the Good Morning Girls Bible reading series.I have been more active on the face book page and group.However,I found putting pen to paper here a challenge because I got overwhelmed by issues that were surrounding my family.
Since the beginning of the year,we knew that our mother could lose her job at any time.It was not until I saw her  termination letter that the reality hit me.Her income aside,it meant that we would move from the staff quarters where we were staying and shift to a new residential area.The thought of shifting almost made me sick because I had gotten attached so much to my old residence and the estates surrounding it.I thought about my local Church and the friends I had made.All I could sing was ”it is well with my soul”.

My baby  sister was expecting her first child in August 2016.By the time we were shifting,she was heavy with child.I felt like I was also pregnant because from the moment we discovered her pregnancy it became our burden,and we could not rest until the baby came.Being a college girl,it was like an emergency although God took control of the whole situation.I was there to counsel ,encourage,motivate and pray for her.She delivered a bouncing baby boy on Sept.3rd 2016.We give God all the glory.

My sister,Wendy Olale.

Now we have settled in our new home,and the baby is growing up well. My mind is settled and I am so glad to share with you my thoughts concerning our current Bible study.

My mom,Mrs Marie Olale.

We began the book of  Judges  this week.

Since we began this book, I got so disappointed by the Israelites!In our last study,they promised Joshua that they would only recognize God as their Lord. They promised him that they would not worship the foreign gods.Unfortunately,just after Joshua’s death,we realize that the Israelites forgot their promise.They forgot the covenant they renewed with Joshua at Shechem.

They started sinning by intermarrying with the Canaanites who influenced them to worship other gods.The consequences of sinning is that they forsook God and His presence left them;sin also made them weak to their enemies,making them slaves several times.

In Judges chapter 4,we see that the Israelites sinned again and the Lord sold them over to King Jabbin of Canaan who harshly oppressed them for twenty years.

The Israelites remembered the God of their father Jacob and cried out to Him.

. And the children of Israel cried out to the Lord; for Jabin had nine hundred chariots of iron, and for twenty years he had harshly oppressed the children of Israel.

God being so merciful heard their cry and answered them through Deborah-the prophetess at that time.

Are you facing a difficult moment?Are you tired of the hopeless situation you are in?Are you discouraged?Or like the Israelites,did you sin and the sin has made you to be a slave?

If your answer is yes,please do not give up.

This is not the time to feel sorry for yourself.Just like the Israelites,remember you have a mighty and awesome God,who is well able to deliver you from your problems.This is the time to cry out to the Lord,ask Him to forgive you your sins,repent and turn to the Lord.The Lord will definately answer you just as He answered the Israelites through Deborah.

Deborah was not only an Israelite Judge,and a wife to Lapidoth,she was also a brave woman.When Barak was afraid to lead the Israelites to war,she led them to fight and overthrow King Jabin of Canaan.As they  approached the Canaanites,they  knew that the Lord had already gone ahead of them.What followed is that the Lord Himself fought for them!

Judges 4:14

14 Then Deborah said to Barak, “Up! For this is the day in which the Lord has delivered Sisera into your hand. Has not the Lord gone out before you?” So Barak went down from Mount Tabor with ten thousand men following him. 15 And the Lord routed Sisera and all his chariots and all his army with the edge of the sword before Barak; and Sisera alighted from his chariot and fled away on foot. 16 But Barak pursued the chariots and the army as far as Harosheth Hagoyim, and all the army of Sisera fell by the edge of the sword; not a man was left.

Although Sisera,the chief commander of King Jabin’s army fled on foot,Jael,Heber’s wife tricked him and killed him.King Jabin of Canaan was also eventually destroyed.

Deborah was so happy!Indeed the Lord had answered their prayers by delivering king Jabin of Canaan into their hands.Now the Israelites would have freedom to live as they desired.Deborah and Barack worshiped  the Lord through a song in Judges chapter 5.

In the song,we see them describing the war to details.

We see that the Lord indeed fought for Israel,even via stars and rivers.

20 They fought from the heavens;
The stars from their courses fought against Sisera.
21 The torrent of Kishon swept them away,
That ancient torrent, the torrent of Kishon.
O my soul, march on in strength!

23 ‘Curse Meroz,’ said the angel[d] of the Lord,
‘Curse its inhabitants bitterly,
Because they did not come to the help of the Lord,
To the help of the Lord against the mighty.’

In the song they praised Jael who used wisdom to kill king Jabin.It is Jael,a woman,Heber’s wife,who finally killed king Jabin.

24 “Most blessed among women is Jael,
The wife of Heber the Kenite;
Blessed is she among women in tents.
25 He asked for water, she gave milk;
She brought out cream in a lordly bowl.
26 She stretched her hand to the tent peg,
Her right hand to the workmen’s hammer;
She pounded Sisera, she pierced his head,
She split and struck through his temple.
27 At her feet he sank, he fell, he lay still;
At her feet he sank, he fell;
Where he sank, there he fell dead.

The Israelites had won the war victoriously and in the song,Deborah is amazed by the fallen kings,this time there were no spoils for them to take home.

19 “The kings came and fought,
Then the kings of Canaan fought
In Taanach, by the waters of Megiddo;
They took no spoils of silver.

In the song,Deborah mocks Sisera’s mother who seems to be confident and waiting for her son to come back home with the spoils from the war.

28 “The mother of Sisera looked through the window,
And cried out through the lattice,
‘Why is his chariot so long in coming?
Why tarries the clatter of his chariots?’
29 Her wisest ladies answered her,
Yes, she answered herself,
30 ‘Are they not finding and dividing the spoil:
To every man a girl or two;
For Sisera, plunder of dyed garments,
Plunder of garments embroidered and dyed,
Two pieces of dyed embroidery for the neck of the looter?’

If you have turned to the Lord,you have repented,prayed and asked God to help you in your trouble;If you are waiting for God to answer you,then continue waiting,He is coming.God is faithful and full of mercy.Just as He was merciful to the Israelites after  they had sinned,He will be merciful to you too.Your deliverance is coming,your victory is inevitable,your song is coming!

May the Lord richly bless you.
