In life we will always have enemies.Sometimes it is not easy to identify  our enemies. Many times people we think are our friends may be our enemies. It takes a lot of time or some experiences to discover some enemies. With the help of the Holy Spirit,we can identify our enemies and wage war against them. However,we must recognize that those people are not our real enemies, they are just agents. Our real enemy is the devil.

Since the devil is not on our side,he is always looking for a way to destroy us.

1 Peter 5:8

Be sober, be vigilant; because[a] your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

What is the best way that we can fight the devil?

I learnt sometime ago that the best way to fight the devil is on my knees, while praying!

But sometimes my human nature controls me and I forget.I need a constant reminder from God to help me to avoid fighting physically.

Have you watched the movie,WAR ROOM?I watched it recently and it was a good reminder that we as christians should NOT wage war physically but spiritually, unless we are directed by the Lord .We have scripture to back this up.

Ephesians 6:12

12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age,[c] against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

And it goes on to say how we should put on the whole armor of God to overcome evil.

14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—

When going to war,we need to be armed, just the way soldiers go to war when they are fully dressed in the right gear .You see, they are covered from head to toe with protective gear to shield their bodies from bullets and swords. We also need to dress ourselves in the right gear to fight our enemy the devil. The right gear is to be truthful that is having an attitude of readiness and of genuine commitment , righteousness, peaceful,to have faith and believe in God,to be born again,to know the word of God and  to pray always in the Spirit.

While reading Deuteronomy 20,we see the Lord instructing the Israelites through Moses how they are to behave when going for war.

20 “When you go out to battle against your enemies, and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the Lord your God is with you, who brought you up from the land of Egypt.

The Lord wanted the Israelites to be courageous when going to war.The Lord does not want us to be intimidated by the size of our enemies.Do you have a problem that looks too big for you?Let it not scare you. When you are already dressed in the whole armor of God,you do not need to fear, because God is with you.

And he shall say to them, ‘Hear, O Israel: Today you are on the verge of battle with your enemies. Do not let your heart faint, do not be afraid, and do not tremble or be terrified because of them; for the Lord your God is He who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.’

The Lord wanted the Israelites physically on the battle field, but actually it is the Lord Lord who was going to fight for them.Likewise, when we kneel down to pray,we are showing God that we believe in Him.As soon as we start praying,he takes over.He fights the devil and before you know it,the problem is gone.

The Lord also gave them another instruction. He wanted the Israelites to totally destroy their enemies because they worshipped idols.

16 “But of the cities of these peoples which the Lord your God gives you as an inheritance, you shall let nothing that breathes remain alive, 17 but you shall utterly destroy them: the Hittite and the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite, just as the Lord your God has commanded you, 18 lest they teach you to do according to all their abominations which they have done for their gods, and you sin against the Lord your God.

The Lord knew that if they didn’t totally destroy them, they would be influenced to worship other gods.

Do you have an experience that you can share with us,how you were faced with a big problem but through prayer, you managed to overcome it?
