CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS

On 12th December my mom asked me,Stella, which Church are you going tomorrow?

I replied confidently,”I am going to my Church tomorrow, moreover,we have a children’s fundraising for building our Church which I cannot afford to miss.”Then I saw her frowning a bit.I asked her,”will you be free on Christmas day,she said no.Again I asked, what of the immediate Sunday after Christmas? She said she would be working.

I was like Aaaaaaaawh!Being a caterer, she normally doesn’t have much choice around this time of the year, because she prepares Christmas for the institution she works for.13th December would be the last day for her in Church. We took supper and went to bed that night, but her question  lingered heavily on my mind.

In bed I asked myself, couldn’t I sacrifice this Sunday to be with my mom?Ofcourse I needed to be at my Church. Then I considered that I have my precious mom now, these

are our moments.I will always have Church with me,but I will not always have mom with me.

The next morning  I was the first to wake up early. Then I told my mom that I had decided to go with her to Church. She was like,oh,okay, let’s get ready.I got relieved, giving her my time, and spending the day with her on the only free day she had before Christmas.

After the service .

The next Sunday,I felt obliged to accompany my dad to Church.

I love Christmas, the atmosphere is really charged.Isn’t this the best time to go for missions?I admired a girl who told me that this christmas they were going to Marsabit-an insecure semi arid region to spread the gospel.

The scenarios change!Christmas trees everywhere, christmas lights and wrapped gifts.A Santa claus here and there. Many people travelling, shopping and visiting. Not forgetting the celebrated christmas carols. Its holiday time, hoooray!

It is hard even for non believers to fail to notice that it is Christmas.Because at this time someone will end their conversation with MERRY CHRISTMAS and A HAPPY NEW YEAR!And you will reply the same!

2015

The birth of Jesus Christ is the most interesting in the Bible.I have read it many times before, but I never get tired going back to read it,again and again.

I am still challenged by Mary, the mother of Jesus. The fact that she was chosen to bring forth God in flesh. Her purity, unquestionable.I look at myself and I can’t even try to compare.I have a dirty mind ,my heart is not that kind.I need the blood of Jesus Christ every moment to cleanse me so that I can be pure.

I admire her obedience in Luke 2:1 .When the Roman leader Caesar Augustus issued a decree that all the world should be taxed.

Mary followed her husband from Galilee to Bethlehem city for the taxation. She did not only obey the government, but she obeyed her husband .She was very pregnant, her baby was already due,but she went ahead with the long journey. When I thought about this,I imagined if it was me,I could have convinced my husband to postpone the journey to the next taxation.Or we could have ignored the decree by Caesar.I mean,my first pregnancy?I would want no stress;a comfortable home, good hospital,a car or taxi to take me to hospital,is all I would desire. But we see Mary leaving her comfortable home to an uncofortable cowshed.Within a short time of their stay in the cowshed, she goes into labour and delivers a bouncing baby boy. There is no baby cot here,so she places her baby in a manger.

The arrival of this baby was communicated to two other groups of people, who didn’t know Mary or Joseph at all.

First to the shepherds who watched their flocks by night. An angel said unto them,

Luke 2:10-12New King James Version (NKJV)

10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”

Secondly to the Magi.

They came and asked with confidence,

Matthew 2New King James Version (NKJV)

saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”

This is what we are celebrating now.We are celebrating a child who came to save us from our sins, one who is the King of Kings and the Prince of peace.

Isaiah 9:6

”For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

We are told in the book of John 1:12,that if we receive Jesus Christ and believe in him,we will be called the children of God.

To receive him,we have to believe in our hearts and confess with our mouth that he is Lord,Romans 10:10

How sweet it is to be called a child of God!How wonderful to inherit the blessings that God gives to his children. How wonderful to belong to the Kingdom. How beautiful to celebrate this christmas.

Would you like to to join this kingdom?Would you like to be a covenant child of God?

Make a simple prayer by asking God to forgive you your sins. Then invite Jesus to come into your heart.Surrender your life to Jesus Christ today and have a merry christmas.

I wish you a merry christmas and a happy new year!

Stella.
